'Loneliness' was the #1 topic of interest among our expat/ international community members on Instagram.
The expat life involves a lot of alone time, and being in a new environment may bring with it feelings of loneliness even when there are people around us.
In this course, we'll get into the science behind loneliness - why we feel this way, sharing evidence-based tools you can use to deal with it based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), so that you can move closer to your idea of a fulfilling life.
Every week, you'll get a chance to reflect on what each of these topics means to you, the challenges you face, and what works/ doesn't work for you. You'll also receive customized, personalized feedback via email from Diya.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the course take to complete?
This course is self-paced, but the recommended time to complete it is 5 weeks, spending 30-45 minutes each week. Doing one section each week helps you stay in touch with the content while still giving you enough room to reflect on it in your free time. If you miss a week you can always come back to it later. You'll have access to the course for 16 weeks in total.
How does the course differ from regular talk therapy?
Just like talk therapy,
-
You can share your concerns with Diya John, a registered counselor & psychotherapist
-
It's a safe space i.e. an online platform where course participants' responses can only be seen by the participant and Diya, following the same confidentiality terms as in therapy (View terms)
-
You'll receive support, feedback and input from Diya, based on evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-
You'll learn skills to take care of your mental health
Unlike talk therapy,
-
The course does not include interacting in real time with Diya or talking over a video call. If you'd like to deep dive into any topic, you're welcome to schedule one-on-one counseling calls separately.
-
The reflection activities are designed around typing (e.g. in a worksheet) rather than talking
With iTherapy, you'll get to:
-
Engage in reflection activities at your own pace, from anywhere, at any time
-
Get weekly feedback from Diya via email
-
Save money, as this 5 week course comes at a fraction of the cost of regular talk therapy
How exactly will Diya be responding to reflections?
Once you submit answers to the reflection activities each week, Diya will respond to each of them via email, sharing her feedback, support and guidance. You will get a copy of your reflections + her feedback. She will also send you video messages occasionally for a more personal touch :)
